Who's Who in the Jewish Bible: Ham

Ham (Hebrew origin: Hot)
(Genesis 5:32).

Ham was one of the three sons of Noah. He; his father; his brothers, Shem and Japheth; and their wives survived the Flood in the Ark built by Noah. After the Flood, Noah planted a vineyard, drank from its wine, and became drunk. Ham entered his father's tent and saw him lying there, naked and drunk. Instead of decently covering him, Ham went out and told his brothers. They entered Noah's tent, averting their eyes, and covered his nakedness. Noah woke up and found that Ham had not treated him with respect. He cursed Canaan, son of Ham, and prophesied that he would be a servant to Japheth and Shem. The other sons of Ham were Cush, ancestor of the Ethiopians; Mizraim, ancestor of the Egyptians; and Put.
