The Tagged TANAKH
In the 21st century, information once found only in books streams across laptops, mobile devices, and social networks. This information is often presented out of context and stripped of authority. To ensure that the values and ideas embedded within the Torah remain stable, accessible and relevant in today's digital world, JPS has created the Tagged TANAKH (TT).

Collaborative Jewish Technology
The Tagged TANAKH is a collaborative effort that joins vetted content with user-generated commentary around the Jewish Bible. The words of the Torah create the foundation of a database. These words can be cross-referenced, annotated, and connected—tagged—to other forms of media, including videos, maps or games. Individual words or chunks of text can serve as stepping-stones for dynamic conversations that can cross educational and technological boundaries.
Tagged TANAKH and You
The Tagged TANAKH offers all of us a chance to connect with Judaism on our own terms, whether as Jewish professionals searching for educational resources, as Jewish learners engaged in text study, or as bar and bat mitzvah students preparing divrei Torah. And excitingly, the Tagged TANAKH is a social network—allowing people to interact with each other, not just in a classroom of students, but in a world of learners.
Funding
Improving the quality of Jewish education, especially for younger generations, requires an investment in qualified people and significant content. After this initial investment, the Tagged TANAKH will generate sources of revenue through subscriptions, which will provide access to supplemental services and tools. In order to reach this self-sustaining level, we must secure funding for the next two years of project development.
Every level of support is needed in order to bring such an ambitious project to fruition—from foundations and angel donors to micro-donations and in-kind contributions. The following list identifies funding opportunities currently available:
The Tagged TANAKH Capital Fund
The most groundbreaking project that JPS has ever undertaken, the Tagged TANAKH is in many ways a Jewish educational technology start-up. Your help and support in developing this important project can make all the difference! The Tagged TANAKH is currently offered for free. Help us realize the full vision of this exciting contribution to Jewish culture and education by supporting its growth through a tax-deductible contribution.
The Tagged TANAKH Special Projects Fund
Invest in specific aspects of the Tagged TANAKH that reflect your passions and interests. Perhaps you're a social media maven. Maybe Hebrew text study is something you want brought to a wider audience. With the Tagged TANAKH Special Projects Fund, contributions will be directed to these or similar facets of this ambitious project.
Connecting Hebrew and English Bible Texts
The current version of the Tagged TANAKH includes the English text of the Bible. By contributing to the Special Projects Fund, you can support Hebrew integration into the Tagged TANAKH. This is a deceptively complicated feature since Hebrew involves distinct characters, vowels, and visual display. JPS intends to use the most up-to-date and standardized digital Hebrew that is available so that all Tagged TANAKH users can appreciate the full richness of Torah.
Linking Tagged TANAKH with Published JPS Content
With over 122 years of experience publishing Jewish text, JPS has an archive of more than 1,000 books. The Tagged TANAKH will enable new readers to discover the wisdom hidden in this extensive archive by connecting JPS books to specific content in the Bible. Legends of the Jews, JPS commentaries and The Jewish Catalog are examples of the types of JPS books we plan to integrate into the Tagged TANAKH.
Adding Social Networking Features
The dizzying pace of online communication requires up-to-date incorporation of the latest digital channels. From Facebook and MindMeister, to APIs and widgets, using technology to share information is essential to communities and organizations. Your support will enable us to incorporate essential social networking tools in the Tagged TANAKH and help reach a broad-based audience.
Developing Curricular and Training Resources for Jewish Educators
The Tagged TANAKH is a leader in the Jewish Educational Technology sector and is a platform that intends to revolutionize Jewish education. Help us develop new curricula and train today's brightest educators to meet the needs of the wired generation.
